6 Steps for Leadership

  • The Way of God – It is necessary to follow the way, the path of God. Count the cost, make the decision to do things God’s way, living a life of holiness, being willing to let God change you and mold you into the person he wants, being willing to die for the sheep, be hungry for the Word of God, be worshipers of God, be submissive to authority.
  • Relationships – Christ had a deep relationship with the sheep, they heard his voice and where intimately acquainted with it, this is the way Christ spent time with his disciples. Leaders need to maintain unity as they represent the philosophy of ministry and theology of the church they are in.
  • A leader must have a servant’s heart, desire to be of blessing to others and not themselves.
  • The pastor gives his life for the sheep – a leader prays for the sheep that they might have healing, blessing, courage to speak the words of the gospel.
  • Know the state of your sheep – Know the state of your sheep’s health. Pray for those people that need special attention. The goal is to see your sheep fulfill the purpose God has for their lives.
  • Have care for the lost – Share the gospel with the lost and invite them to church. Evangelism is a part of leadership. You don’t necessarily need to become an evangelist, but we are all called to share the gospel.
  • A leader has a passion for people, has good character and integrity, is a person committed to spiritual and personal growth and is also a person that supports the vision of the church.

This preaching was recorded at the Pastor’s Retreat of Feb. 2012, that took place in Tlaquiltenango Morelos, México.
